Brunner’s well-thought-out furniture solutions support the design concept, enabling flexible use of the building.

The Baden-Württemberg State Firefighting Academy has been training more than 6500 firefighters a year at its current location in Bruchsal since 1961. It offers some 50 courses. Between 2014 and 2017, a new training and office building was erected covering an area of approximately 3000 m² for up-to-date training purposes. Transition from a “house of instruction” to a modern “house of learning” which supports self-organised learning – this was the task facing architect firm Linhart Gall who planned the three-storey new build.

The ground floor and first floor house the varied, multifunctional training rooms. The administration and instructors’ offices are located on the second floor. The design of the training area deliberately differs from the traditional architecture associated with school buildings. Instead of long corridors with classrooms branching off them, the public areas are designed so they can also be used as additional spaces. Learning islands and alcoves encourage group work or periods of quiet study.

The modular Brunner A-Chair was chosen for the seating in the training rooms and the multifunctional conference room. With its comfortable seat liner and writing tablet which can be fitted without tools, the slimline stacking chair is perfect for use in a learning environment. For the firefighting academy’s training exercise rooms, A-Chair seat shells have been installed directly on a wooden platform as a custom solution. The coordinating furnishings are supplemented with trust folding tables, stackable pivot standing tables and fina bar bar stools. The modular banc lounge system has also created inviting seating islands in the public areas.
