Grund- und Werkrealschule Rheinau

Rheinau, Germany, 2012

Handling: Grade “A”

In the course of its extension, the Grund- und Werkrealschule Rheinau was equipped with functional and shapely contract furniture made by Brunner.

Architects and the city council opted for beech wood shells, since they perfectly support the design concept of the extension building.

Christine Bürgin, Regional Head of Sales, Brunner GmbH, Rheinau

At the start of the 2011/12 school year, the two independent primary and secondary modern schools Freistett and Rheinbischofsheim were combined to form the new Grund- und Werkrealschule. In the course of this process, an extension building had to be realised, housing two classrooms, two dedicated workrooms, administrative rooms and a school refectory. The Karlsruhe-based architecural firm “SWS Architekten” had awarded the contract. In April 2012, the rooms and the refectory seating 100 pupils could take up operation. The dominant design element and building material of the new building is light coloured wood, combined with a lively shade of green providing a colourful accent. In the refectory, 100 fina chairs made by Brunner, stained light green, fulfil this task. The shapely and functional sled-base chairs with their shaped beech plywood shell are stackable and easy to handle on transporting trolleys. In addition, 16 folding tables from the sleight series are deployed here, convincing in particular because of their one-hand folding mechanism. The selected lightweight table top further reduces the weight of the tables so that they are even easier to handle. The new classrooms, too, were equipped by Brunner – with 100 stackable cantilever chairs from the fox series. In order to attain a harmonious overall design, the chairs received a surface of oak cover veneer stained light, matching the tone of the wooden cladding. As a special edition, they were finished with a seat shell from the prime series, featuring an invisible connection to the frame. Moreover, 63 folding tables with robust Thermopal HPL surfaces in different sizes were delivered. The teachers’ tables were also equipped with lockable and fully extendable drawers as a special feature.
