Twofold high-school diploma (<em>Abitur</em>) classes and an increase in student numbers in Germany: Colleges in Baden-Wurttemberg are bursting at the seams. As a counter-measure, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) opened a new learning centre for chemistry and biological sciences. 200 students can find their place in the new building designed by Berlin architect Reiner Becker. It has been his task to create space for research learning in small groups or for individual learning. Brunner supplied the suitable contract furniture: The seminar rooms and open learning areas are equipped with milano tables and fina chairs. grato benches are grouped to form seating corners. In the foyer hoc stand-up tables and barstools invite informal exchange. “The learning centre is money well spent,” summarizes a satisfied Theresia Bauer, Minister for Economic Affairs.
