Canteen RUB

The Ruhr Universität offers the ideal conditions for university activities and business. With the completely redeveloped canteen at the heart of the campus, the university has a new communication centre with more natural light and open space. The materials used in the refurbishment lend the architectural concept a sense of transparency. Steel and glass, as well as natural stone and stainless steel, provide the rooms with light and elegance and support the spacious impression of the building. It’s not only the optimum lighting in the building that facilitates studying and working, the architecture takes an intelligent approach to meeting the needs of students and employees.

The integration of art in the construction is truly inspiring. These projects were planned in the 60s and implemented in the 70s. The artistic elements were developed during reconstruction and could be characterised as “the word as art and art as the word”. Colourfully designed, furnished with mysterious writing and positioned between the tables, they reflect the atmosphere of their surroundings: communication.

The new, large and bright canteen can cater for 1,850 people. The floor above the new canteen offers space in the foyers for a bistro and coffee bar as well as several seminar rooms. The “old canteen” has been redeveloped into a congress centre with conference and event rooms as well as catering facilities. The canteen building was furnished with chairs, tables and bar stools from the prime, get.up and sleight ranges.
