Heidelberg Congress Center

Heidelberg, Germany, 2023.

“A place with a vision”

Under the motto “DESIGNED TO PERFORM,” the Heidelberg Congress Center (HCC) is setting new standards for modern conferences and meetings. With a striking sandstone façade and a flexible room concept across three floors, the building offers a wide range of possible uses over a total gross floor area of 30,000 square metres – including around 6600 square metres of meeting space.

A particular highlight of the HCC is the light and airy, 14-metre-tall Hall 1, which can accommodate up to 1800 people and boasts the largest permanently installed LED wall in Germany. The HCC also features a green screen studio for live streaming and video productions, and the Sky Forum – a stylish open-air bamboo venue that provides a unique setting for special events. The result is a modern and versatile platform for national and international events.

The HCC is also breaking new ground in terms of sustainability: An efficient construction method, a 1800 m² photovoltaic system, ventilation systems operated with heat recovery systems, connection to the Heidelberg district heating and cooling network and excellent local public transport links guarantee environmentally friendly and energy-efficient use of the building.

Both the architecture and the interior design reflect the high standards of quality and innovation. The aim was to create a conference centre that stood out from the crowd – even in terms of its furnishings. Standard solutions were therefore out of the question. The architects were looking for something special that combined design, quality and sustainability, and this is how they came across Brunner.

Brunner was able to impress with a site visit to its headquarters, where options were discussed directly and with sample furniture. Production in Germany was a decisive factor for the collaboration. The regional production combined with the highest quality standards was a crucial factor for the architects in their selection of Brunner.

As the link between the manufacturer and the end customer, we found collaborating with Brunner to be extremely smooth. All quality promises were reliably implemented – exactly as communicated.

They were looking for wooden seating – chic, high quality and in-keeping with the architecture. Chairs from the nate s range fulfilled these requirements straight away: The combination of wood and steel construction, a durable powder coating and clean, timeless design make it the perfect choice. Particularly impressive features include its compact design, stacking capability and full recyclability thanks to materials that can be separated and sorted.

Although nate s was not originally intended for use in large spaces, its characteristics met the specification – sustainability, material quality and design – making it a perfect match for the HCC concept. This led Brunner to work with the architects to create a special solution together to make the chair suitable for use in large spaces, including an extensible linking device and seat numbering.

The result of this collaboration speaks for itself: nate s and other furnishings help to ensure that the HCC is impressive not only architecturally, but also functionally and aesthetically – for visitors and everyone involved in the project.

The HCC foyer features complementary nate s bar stools and standing tables that continue the design concept and emphasise the modern character of the building. The furnishings fit perfectly with the architecture and contribute to the unique atmosphere of the conference centre.

The boards range also ensures greater flexibility and promotes dynamic interactions. With the whiteboards, bar stool, shelving system and standing table, it provides functional solutions that support creative exchanges and collaboration – tailored to the flexible configuration of the HCC.
