Brunner Ltd.

London | United Kingdom

Brunner started a joint venture with David Shirley in the United Kingdom back in 2003. The company's new partner had already been making a name for himself in the furniture industry with his own small business since 1973. Both parties benefited from positive synergies, which allowed Shirley to establish Brunner as a premium contract furniture brand on the British market in his role as Managing Director. He worked with his three sons to grow Brunner Ltd. into a sector leader. The Brunner UK headquarters in London’s Clerkenwell design district is based in an old Victorian warehouse dating back to 1895 that combines a traditional look with modern twists. Huge windows in the historical building front reveal Brunner’s future focus as a driver of innovation in the contract furniture sector through the incredible product display in the showroom.

Incredibly, all the rooms in this stunning three-storey brick building are located along the 40-metre-long façade. In other words, they can all be seen from the outside, with the eight windows and glass revolving door offering a uniquely effective perspective. A huge dark steel staircase links up all the floors, creating a single consolidated unit. The transparency and white walls, floors and ceilings accentuate the original building features in sandblasted brick and dark steel.

The award-winning architects Jonathan McDowell and Renato Benedetti turned out to be fans of Brunner’s historical building. They picked out its early industrial charm and contrasted it perfectly with contemporary, high-end interior design. Spanning 740 square metres across three floors, the building is home to offices, meeting rooms and a spectacular showroom. This is where Brunner showcases its furniture for the office, education, conference, large space, restaurant and event sectors using display windows, platforms, carpeted islands and even the ceiling. The ‘Designer’s Resource’ in the basement is a huge collection of material samples and reference materials in a stylish setting next to the Brunner bar, providing the perfect place for presentations, discussions, casual chats and formal meetings.
