Das Wormser

Worms, Germany, 2011

Theatre, Cultural and Conference Centre

“Das Wormser” is a cultural and event centre that can look back on 122 years’ tradition. In 2011, the venue was re-opened, after comprehensive modernisation and extension works had been finished in the building that originally was opened to the public back in 1889. Now, cultural activities, seminars and corporate events can take place on more than 4,000 square meters.

This project was carried through by the internationally renowned Hamburg-based architectural firm “gmp Gerkan, Marg und Partner”, who among other projects built the Berlin main station and three soccer stadiums for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. For the interior decoration of the eight event rooms of “Das Wormser”, the architects selected first class equipped with black plastic armrests and double seat liner. This versatile stacking chair was convincing thanks to its modern and sophisticated design, and it is both ergonomic and extremely practical. After all, it features an invisible row-linking system, making first class a chair that can be deployed universally – individually in a seminar room just as a row chair in the grand theatre hall. 850 of the total of 1,500 chairs delivered have been equipped with the electronic seat numbering system ESN. The perfect complement for first class: folding table trust, which thanks to its intelligent one-hand-fitting can be folded up by just one person with one movement and carried away – saving lots of time when equipping or clearing the rooms.
