GESOBAU AG

Berlin, Germany, 2020.

Municipal housing company GESOBAU AG manages some 43,000 residential and commercial units in Berlin

At the end of 2019, around 310 members of staff were employed at three sites in the city. But this was all due to change, with the plan to bring all of the employees together at one central head office. And so the company decided to develop its own building complex in Berlin’s Pankow district by linking one new build to the two existing buildings either side of it

A beautiful combination of modern and traditional architecture paired with matching furniture boasting an organic design and eye-catching colours.

Berlin-based Dahm Architekten & Ingenieure won the tender for the building’s architecture, impressing with its design based around natural materials and a clear divide between the modern and the traditional. The architectural firm also convinced with its plan to blend the building’s different levels by introducing quirky stairwells and openings.

The interior designers at Graef GmbH faced a major challenge, too. The plan was to transform a building complex made up of three very different parts into a head office boasting modern, ergonomic work spaces for all staff. One of the existing buildings has extremely high ceilings allowing for a spacious central area to be created, whilst the other has low ceilings and a long, narrow corridor. The new build – the third and final part of the complex – features an inner courtyard surrounded by a long corridor and modern architectural features made of glass. The furniture provided one option for creating a consistent design overall, with full ranges with uniform, organic styles being requested. Warm colours and natural materials are also to be used to create the same pleasant ambiance that GESOBAU AG is proud to offer its own tenants.

The furniture selected included models in the crona collection combined with Brunner’s A-bench. The signature design of the crona range was a hit and the option to have the furniture upholstered with a custom combination of special fabrics went down very well, too. And so the seating in the conference rooms features breathable woollen fabrics, whilst easy-to-clean materials made of recycled plastic bottles can be found in the open-plan kitchens and break out areas.

crona, crona bar and crona lounge (chairs and sofas) with sled-base frames are combined with valet side tables, single-column tables from the 3000 series and the A-bench with a wooden frame in central areas and little meeting corners.

The pheno cantilever chair and the fina conference table system are also on hand to keep meetings professional yet comfy.

Just next to a tenant consultation area on the ground floor is the GESOBAU staff canteen, where employees are welcome to sit on an A-chair stacking chair at one of the single-column tables from the 3000 series.

The GESOBAU AG brand colour is reflected in the magenta shades used for the fabrics, which contrast nicely with a vibrant green colour to make a bold statement. Grey accents create a link to the architectural features.
