Messinghof Kassel

Kassel, Germany, 2019

The Messinghof in Kassel is a former brass works dating back to the 17th century. Built in 1679, it is one of the oldest and most historic factories in Hessen. Completion of the 11.3 metre tall Hercules statue, the symbol of the city of Kassel, caused the Messinghof to go down in history.

The Messinghof has changed hands several times over the years. It was also partially destroyed by incendiary bombs during the Second World War. The ruins of the Hammer wing had to be pulled down in the 1960s. In 1975, the last metalworking owner filed for bankruptcy, putting an end to more than 300 years of metal work.

Following a short period of vacancy, a number of artists moved into the Messinghof between 1979 and 1996, including punk record label Iron Curtain Records. They were evicted by the police in 1996 however, leaving the building vacant once again and falling into disrepair. In 2010, regional car dealer Peter Glinicke purchased the Messinghof, extensively renovating the historic monument. He set out to preserve as much of the historic industrial building as possible.

Over time, the roof structure, along with the dormers and façades, was repaired. Three out of the four archways also had to be reconstructed. Inside, new wooden ceilings were put in under the premise that as many old beams as possible would be preserved. Further restoration work was carried out. Following completion of the renovation and reconstruction, the Messinghof is now the perfect venue for a wide variety of occasions, including meetings, events and weddings. Thanks to the careful restoration and a unified media concept, the Messinghof leaves nothing to be desired.

Various pieces of Brunner furniture, including some custom-made products, highlight the unique atmosphere of the Messinghof. Lounge solutions banc and fina lounge, crona bar and crona light bar bar stools, the pivot standing table and stackable first line chairs are some of the pieces used here. In the meeting and conference area, the fina soft conference chair, fina conference and 4more tables and the team partition wall and presentation board ensure optimum meeting results. The outdoor area has been transformed into a blissful haven thanks to the twin plastic chair in elegant lava and a single-column table from the 3000 series.
